I had no idea that I would become a successful freelancer when I quit my first job out of school. I actually only worked at that job for about three months, just enough to get a deposit for an apartment. I had no idea how I was going to make money, but I had a backup plan. Amazingly, it worked!
Over the years, I’ve always gone back to being a freelancer whenever I needed some extra work, needed to step away from my businesses or when I became a mother. With the cutest little boy, who was easy peasy after birth, I actually returned to work after 4 weeks. I could have gone back earlier, but I chose to enjoy at least one month of maternity leave.
“How I Became a Big City Freelance Writer…With a Not-So-Big Shoe Collection” is my story about how I became a successful freelance writer. When you say “successful freelancer,” you may think about paying the bills, landing new clients, and not worrying so much about the future. But in my case, it was a 6-figure income while having time to work on other businesses as well.
There are definitely lessons that I’ve learned throughout my years as a freelancer. While this book may sound like a career autobiography, I guarantee you that it’s not. While it is a story about my life as a freelance writer, it’s written in terms of lessons I have learned. I’ve decided to share seven major lessons that you can easily apply to your own freelance business to make you a successful freelancer.
“How I Became a Big City Freelance Writer…With a Not-So-Big Shoe Collection” is due out in late 2019. Did you know that I also talk about freelancing as a career choice as part of a keynote speech? Learn more here.
