Strategy Over Stack: Why Your Thinking Matters More Than Your Tools

    • January 7, 2026
    Strategy Over Stack

I have a confession: I love a shiny new tool as much as the next marketer. The onboarding emails are crisp, the dashboards are colourful, and the demo person says “seamless” with the confidence of someone who has never tried to integrate anything, ever. But here’s the problem. A bigger stack doesn’t automatically mean better […]

One Campaign, One Pivot: A Case Study in Smart Data Use

    One Campaign, One Pivot

I have a confession: for years, I treated “campaign performance” like it was mostly about the email. The subject line. The preview text. The button colour. The vibe. The emotional support GIF. You know, the classics. Then I learned the hard way that sometimes your email is fine, and the real problem is what happens […]

How to Tell If Your Funnel Is Lying to You

How to Tell If Your Funnel Is Lying to You

If your funnel report says “Paid Social is dead,” but your bank account says “That’s funny, revenue looks alive,” congrats. You have met the modern funnel: part measurement system, part improv theatre. Most funnels do not intend to lie. They just do what dashboards do best: confidently summarise a messy reality into neat little boxes. […]

Vanity Metrics vs. Vital Metrics: The Ultimate Cheat Sheet

    Vanity Metrics vs. Vital Metrics

If you have ever walked into a meeting with a dashboard so colourful it could qualify as modern art, I get it. Marketing is one of the only jobs where you can do a ton of work, make a real impact, and still have someone ask, “Okay, but how many likes did it get?” Here’s […]

The Data Trap: Why More Reports Don’t Mean Better Decisions

    • December 10, 2025
    The Data Trap

I have a theory that marketers are not actually “data-driven.” We are “data-hoarding.” We collect dashboards the way some people collect tote bags: we do not need twelve, but it feels irresponsible to have only one. And honestly, I get it. Data feels like safety. If you can just pull one more report, slice one […]

ROAS Is Dead: Smarter Metrics for Smarter Marketers

    • December 3, 2025
    ROAS Is Dead

Looking for an alternative to ROAS? ROAS misses margin, retention, and incrementality. Here are smarter metrics that show true impact. It’s time to rethink what ROI really means. The problem with ROAS is not math. It’s the story you think it’s telling. ROAS looks so clean on a dashboard. Spend a dollar, make three, feel […]

From Dashboard Overwhelm to Data Clarity: The Only 5 Metrics That Matter

From Dashboard Overwhelm to Data Clarity

I have a confession: I love dashboards the way I love charcuterie boards. The idea of them is perfect. The reality is I end up surrounded by 47 little “insights,” mildly stressed, and somehow still hungry. Marketing reporting tends to do the same thing. We collect everything because we can, we display everything because it […]

My book budget blew up in September! I probably sp My book budget blew up in September! I probably spent way too much on books, but books are my weakness.

I’m beyond happy to get my hands on Kipp Bodnar and Kieran Flanagan’s book, LOOP! The minute it arrived, I cleared my Sunday.

Also, you know it will be a disruptive book when the first page is all about how the marketing industry just blew up and nothing has been the same since.

Congrats, fellas! ✨

I’m already losing sleep due to being utterly obsessed with reading it!

Q3 was INSANITY for 44fjord - in a good way, of co Q3 was INSANITY for 44fjord - in a good way, of course! Client growth, service growth, team growth, and lots of new insights for innovation. I personally cannot believe we are in Q4 2026! How did that happen!?

And while we were busy, we didn’t forget to track everything that’s happening in marketing this past quarter. We saw some major shifts and insights. We capture all of this in our Q3 Signals Report, which is out in two weeks.

In case you’ve never grabbed our Signals Report, we:
🟡 Look at trend reports, behavioural stats, and buying trends
🟡 Examine major platform changes to determine downstream impact
🟡 Package everything into a simple (and beautiful) report. You can even take it, plop it into LLMs, and run it against your own business and ask, “Given how the industry is changing based on this report, what should I prepare for given our current performance?”

You’re welcome. 😉

Internally, we use it for upstream innovation, so our clients are constantly aware of how changes and developments in the marketing space may impact their sales funnel, marketing efforts, and marketing-to-sales alignment.

Building a business is a lot of hard work, late ni Building a business is a lot of hard work, late nights, and being sleep-deprived. But it’s also a lot of fun. Apparently, big lists is something I can’t stop laughing about. If we can’t have some fun along this journey, what’s the point? #bloopers
I’ve been testing a few AI indexing methods after I’ve been testing a few AI indexing methods after something in the Q2 signals report caught my eye, mainly omni-channel indexing, where you look at how AI search pieces together everything it can find about you across your website, newsletters, LinkedIn and other people’s pages to get the full picture instead of one channel at a time.

Some of it was spot on, and some of it read like a summary written by someone who guessed a little bit, including the part where we only serve B2B, which will be news to our B2C clients. We also do more than just HubSpot.

My favourite was a link from someone else’s site naming Deloitte and EY as my biggest competitors 🤪 I’m fairly sure neither of them has called an emergency meeting about a new firm that launched in April.

Either way, fun little side project. Let’s see what new findings come out in the Q3 Signals Report.
Back from Boston and straight into post-UNBOUND mo Back from Boston and straight into post-UNBOUND mode: packed notebook, dozens of voice memos, and a head full of other people’s ideas.

UNBOUND handed me more than I can implement in one quarter, and that’s a good problem to have. I’m already testing new frameworks, tearing up and rebuilding process ideas, and iterating on a few reporting concepts I’m excited to get right…also known as wobbly-legs mode.

Right now, we’re busy pulling together the Q3 signals report after UNBOUND, so some of these ideas will land there first before they hit any client work.

Grateful for the conversations, the clients who made time to sit down, and everyone who let me talk their ear off about CRM, data and funnels at a networking event (if you know me, that’s basically my love language).

But even more grateful for the team, holding it down while I was gone. Back to building 44fjord. Onwards and upwards.

On my way to Day 3, the final day, after a Day 2 t On my way to Day 3, the final day, after a Day 2 that was packed with great sessions, hallway conversations, and time with clients and partners.

A few things I’m still thinking about after a day of AI, data, and reporting talks:

💛 ABM only works when the handoff works. You can build the smartest account-based strategy in the world, but if marketing passes a lead to sales without the right context, alignment, or next step, it becomes a very expensive game of telephone.

❤️ Marketing is being asked to do more than generate leads. There’s growing pressure to validate intent and readiness earlier, so sales can spend more time having meaningful conversations with the right accounts.

🧡 Data needs to be part of every asset, channel, and strategy - not an afterthought. In a world where AI can give you ten possible next steps before you finish your coffee, data is what helps you decide which move actually makes sense.

💚 AI is a tool. No matter what’s in your tech stack, it won’t replace a strong process. The process is where the real advantage is.

💙 AI can give you speed, but people create something more lasting: memory and experience. And that’s what compounds over time.

💜 The question I can’t stop thinking about: if you removed AI from your business tomorrow, would your customers notice? If the answer is yes, that may be a sign it’s become too visible. The best AI strategy is often the one customers never see - it improves the experience without becoming the experience.

🤍 I also sat through some reporting sessions and left with a few genuinely interesting ideas I’m excited to test once I’m back home.

Off to soak up a few more hours before heading back to Toronto. Boston, you’ve been grand. See you next year.
